Major EOU Action in Bihar: Inspector Abhishek Kumar Ranjan Booked in Disproportionate Assets Case, Massive Property and Investments Unearthed

Bihar’s Economic Offences Unit has raided multiple locations linked to Inspector Abhishek Kumar Ranjan, uncovering assets worth crores, including land investments and alleged benami properties.
Patna / Alam Ki Khabar:In a significant crackdown on corruption within the police department, the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar has carried out a major operation against Abhishek Kumar Ranjan, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Kishanganj Town Police Station. The raid was conducted in connection with a disproportionate assets case, triggering widespread concern within the police administration.
According to official sources, simultaneous raids were conducted at five locations across Bihar and West Bengal. During these searches, investigators reportedly recovered documents related to large-scale property holdings, financial investments, and suspected benami assets worth several crores of rupees. Preliminary findings suggest that the total value of assets and investments may exceed ₹20–25 crore.
Abhishek Kumar Ranjan joined the Bihar Police as a sub-inspector in 2009 and was promoted to inspector in 2023. During his service tenure, he was posted in several districts including Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Patna, and Kishanganj. However, allegations have now emerged that he accumulated assets far beyond his known sources of income.
Investigations so far indicate that his declared and legitimate income stands at around ₹1.70 crore, while the assets and investments traced by the EOU appear to be many times higher. One of the key discoveries includes a residential property in Patna’s Ramkrishna Nagar area, spanning around 2,200 square feet, constructed between 2023 and 2024 and estimated to be worth nearly ₹2 crore.
Officials also confirmed the existence of a house in Chapra and a two-storey under-construction residence in his native village. In addition, land worth several crores has been linked to his name in Siliguri’s Darjeeling Road area, where approximately six kattha of land was purchased. Investigators suspect that a large cash payment of around ₹84 lakh was used in the transaction.
The EOU has also uncovered evidence of investments in multiple properties in Muzaffarpur and connections with a real estate network, indicating possible involvement with land syndicates. Officials believe that several of these assets may be benami in nature.
Further scrutiny of bank accounts has revealed deposits in the accounts of his family members, along with investments in mutual funds, insurance policies, and stock market instruments. Reports also suggest expenditure on luxury lifestyle choices, including expensive mobile phones, private school admissions for children, and frequent air travel.
Investigators found that the officer and his family undertook luxury trips, including a recent flight from Bagdogra to Mumbai, where they stayed at a five-star Taj hotel for several days. Officials are now examining the financial trail behind these expenditures.
The EOU estimates that the total assets and investments linked to the officer may exceed ₹20 crore, with several properties still under verification. The investigation is ongoing, and officials believe that more revelations may surface in the coming days.
This case adds to a growing list of corruption-related actions within the Bihar Police, as enforcement agencies intensify their crackdown on disproportionate assets cases across the state.
