New Delhi, October 30, 2025:
With Bihar heading into a high-stakes assembly election, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has gone into full alert mode. In a top-level review meeting held on Thursday, the Commission ordered all states bordering Bihar to intensify surveillance, tighten border security, and crack down on any flow of cash, liquor, drugs, or freebies meant to sway voters.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, reviewed the law and order situation with the Chief Secretaries and DGPs of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, besides officials from the Home Ministry, Railways, and key enforcement agencies.

 Focus: Secure and Sealed Borders

The Commission stressed that all sensitive districts must remain under round-the-clock watch and that inter-state borders should be effectively sealed ahead of polling.
Officials have been told to strengthen intelligence networks, deploy additional security forces, and ensure strict checking of vehicles and goods along Bihar’s borders, including the international boundary with Nepal.

 Enforcement Agencies on the Move

Agencies such as the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Income Tax Department, CGST, and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) have been instructed to ramp up raids, seizures, and enforcement drives based on actionable intelligence.
The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and state police forces have also been asked to enhance coordination and ensure zero tolerance for illegal cross-border activity.

 Commission’s Stern Message

“The integrity of the electoral process is non-negotiable,” the Chief Election Commissioner asserted, underlining that the ECI will not tolerate any lapse or complacency.
The Commission has directed all agencies to work seamlessly to maintain order, safety, and trust throughout the election period — making it clear that this time, Bihar’s vote will be guarded as tightly as its borders.
