Patna. The Bihar election campaign took a hit on Saturday as heavy rain and poor visibility forced several top leaders to cancel their public rallies. Home Minister Amit Shah had to scrap three scheduled meetings after helicopters were grounded due to bad weather. Shah later addressed voters in Gopalganj through video conferencing from Patna’s Maurya Hotel, reiterating that the NDA alone could ensure a “stable and developed Bihar.”
On the opposition side, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav too couldn’t attend his Sahebganj rally as his chopper failed to take off. Speaking virtually to supporters, Tejashwi said the weather might block his travel, but not his connection with the people. “Bihar now needs a youth-driven government,” he declared, urging voters to choose change.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi reached Patna to begin her campaign but her Beldaur rally was cancelled due to continuous rainfall. Congress candidate Mithilesh Nishad confirmed the cancellation online, saying the event will be rescheduled soon.
Tension erupted in East Champaran’s Narkatia constituency where the campaign vehicle of JD(U) candidate Vishal Kumar was allegedly attacked by miscreants. Posters of CM Nitish Kumar were torn, and the loudspeaker van vandalized. Kumar accused anti-social elements of targeting NDA workers repeatedly.
Despite the weather chaos, the political firestorm in Bihar hasn’t cooled down. Union Minister Giriraj Singh accused the opposition of panicking over NDA’s manifesto, calling it a blueprint for youth employment and women’s empowerment. BJP leader Sanjay Jaiswal took a direct swipe at Rahul Gandhi, saying, “He insults Bihar’s culture and even Chhath Puja. Every time he speaks, he helps NDA.”
RJD MP Manoj Jha, meanwhile, targeted the Prime Minister over the Mokama murder case, questioning how the government could talk about “jungle raj” under such circumstances.
Saturday was expected to be a “Super Campaign Day” in Bihar—Nitish Kumar had six rallies lined up, Tejashwi seventeen, and Priyanka Gandhi’s debut leg scheduled. But as storms lashed the state, politics moved from open grounds to online screens.
For now, the skies may be dark, but Bihar’s political thunder shows no sign of slowing down.
