Bihar witnessed a dramatic, movie-like twist on the night of November 1 when JDU candidate and strongman Anant Singh was arrested from his Barh residence by the police. The arrest is linked to the murder of Jan Suraaj supporter Dularchand Yadav in Mokama, a case that has created shockwaves just days before polling. The first phase of voting is set for November 6, and Anant’s sudden arrest has upended political equations across the state.
**Midnight Operation:**Around midnight, Patna SSP Kartikeyan Sharma led a team of 140 police personnel to Anant Singh’s house in Barh. At 12:15 a.m. he was formally arrested, and by 12:25 a.m. he was on his way to Patna under tight security. The convoy of a dozen vehicles, flashing lights, and blaring sirens made the whole scene look straight out of a gangster film. Around 1:45 a.m. Anant Singh was taken to a secret location in Patna. Police also detained two of his close aides—Manikant Thakur and Ranjit.
**Mokama Murder Case:**On the evening of October 30, gunshots echoed in the Ghoswari area of Mokama. Jan Suraaj worker Dularchand Yadav was killed on the spot. His family directly accused Anant Singh, saying “Chhote Sarkar ordered the killing.” An FIR names Anant and his supporters. Anant, however, claims “it’s a political conspiracy planned by Suraj Bhan.”
**Election Heat Turns to Silence:**The Mokama constituency is witnessing a triangular contest—Anant Singh from JDU, Veena Devi from RJD, and Piyush Priyadarshi from Jan Suraaj. After the murder and arrest, the atmosphere has turned tense. Campaigns have slowed, and fear has gripped the area. Known for his trademark white attire, Anant Singh once again appeared calm during arrest, though this time the timing—just before the polls—makes it politically explosive.
The big question now: is this a victory of law or a strategic political move? Either way, the midnight action from Mokama has sent tremors through Bihar’s political landscape.
