Just days before the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, politics in Mokama has exploded into turmoil. The Patna Police have arrested former MLA and JDU leader Anant Singh in connection with the murder of Jan Suraaj Party worker Dularchand Yadav. The high-profile arrest came late Saturday night, stirring major political ripples across the state.
Reacting to the arrest, Jan Suraaj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi welcomed the move but slammed the police for its delayed action. He told ANI, “It’s a good step, but it should’ve happened earlier. Even today, he was campaigning with a convoy of 50 vehicles. The police should’ve acted right after the FIR was filed. Still, better late than never. Now, the most important thing is that the investigation should be fair and transparent.”
From Clash to Murder: The Full Story
According to Patna SSP Kartikey Sharma, a violent clash broke out on October 30 between supporters of two candidates in Mokama. Several people were injured during the stone-pelting, and later, the body of 75-year-old Dularchand Yadav was recovered from a nearby village. Investigations revealed that the incident occurred during a violation of the model code of conduct, with Anant Singh emerging as the main accused.
Along with Anant Singh, his aides Manikant Thakur and Ranjeet Ram have also been arrested. All three will be presented before a magistrate today. The SSP added that the CID has also joined the probe, and raids are ongoing to nab other accused involved in the case.
Two Police Officers Suspended for Negligence
The case has also exposed lapses within the local administration. Ghoswari SHO Madhusudan Kumar and Bhadour SHO Ravi Ranjan have been suspended for negligence. SSP Sharma said, “Law and order cannot be compromised. Anyone found guilty will face strict action.”
Mokama—The Stronghold of ‘Bahubalis’
Mokama has long been known as a stronghold of Bihar’s musclemen politicians. The region has witnessed the dominance of figures like Anant Singh, his brother Dilip Singh, and former MP Surajbhan Singh. This time, the battle is direct—between JDU’s Anant Singh and RJD’s Veena Devi, who happens to be Surajbhan Singh’s wife. Both belong to the influential Bhumihar community, making the contest even more intense.
Voting in Mokama will take place on November 6 (Phase 1), followed by the second phase on November 11, and the counting of votes on November 14. Anant Singh’s arrest has once again thrown the constituency into the spotlight—where power, politics, and crime are once again colliding head-on in Bihar’s charged electoral battlefield.
