The political temperature in Mokama has risen sharply after the arrest of JDU candidate and former MLA Anant Singh in connection with the murder of Jan Suraj worker Dularchand Yadav. Reacting to the development, RJD candidate Veena Devi, wife of strongman Surajbhan Singh, distanced herself from the controversy, calling it “a matter strictly between two candidates.”
Speaking to the media, Veena Devi said, “Only the police can say what’s happening and what’s not. This incident took place between two candidates. Neither I nor my party has any connection with it. It’s a matter for the administration and the judiciary, and the Election Commission is keeping a close watch on everything.”
On her own campaign, she added confidently, “Our campaign is going very well. This is the land of Parashuram, and I am the daughter-in-law of that sacred land. The people here see everything clearly. Any injustice here would be an insult to the land of Parashuram.”
Meanwhile, Patna Police confirmed the arrest of Anant Kumar Singh on Saturday night. SSP Kartikeya Sharma said the investigation into Dularchand Yadav’s murder is ongoing and further arrests could follow soon.
The arrest has added a new twist to Mokama’s already tense political atmosphere, just days before the Assembly elections. The October 30 clash between two rival political groups had turned violent, leading to stone-pelting and firing, in which 75-year-old Jan Suraj worker Dularchand Yadav was killed and several others injured.
