Gaya, Bihar — A major controversy erupted on Tuesday after police recovered 17 cartons of foreign liquor from a campaign vehicle reportedly associated with HAM (Hindustani Awam Morcha) candidate Deepa Manjhi in the Mokama Assembly segment. The seizure was made near Rouna railway crossing under Guraru Police Station, triggering political tremors across the region.

According to local sources, the vehicle collided with a motorbike, leading to a heated argument. Villagers gathered at the spot and, upon removing plastic sheets inside the vehicle, allegedly found liquor cartons. Some locals were even seen taking bottles from the car before police arrived. Guraru police reached the site and seized the vehicle immediately.

City SP Ramanand Kumar Kaushal confirmed the recovery, stating that the vehicle bore HAM campaign posters and that authorities are identifying the owner. “A case has been registered under relevant excise and election laws,” he added.

Reacting to the incident, HAM spokesperson Rajesh Pandey denied party involvement. “The area where the liquor was found doesn’t even fall under Imamganj constituency. The vehicle is not officially linked to our campaign. Someone may have misused our posters for illegal transport,” he said.

Voting for Imamganj Assembly will be held in the second phase on November 11, with counting on November 14.

As the Model Code of Conduct remains in force, the incident has drawn sharp attention from election authorities. The investigation will reveal whether it was an organized ploy or an isolated misuse of campaign paraphernalia — either way, it highlights the thin line between politics and accountability during election season.
