Acting on a tip-off, police in Dalshinghsarai, Samastipur, busted a gang planning a major jewelry shop robbery just days before the assembly elections. The raid, led by SDPO Vivek Kumar Sharma, resulted in the arrest of five armed criminals and the recovery of three country-made pistols, nine live cartridges, seven mobile phones, and a red Maruti Swift car without a registration number.
The arrested men — Ramesh Sahni (Samastipur), Kesh Kumar alias Raja Chaudhary, Amit Kumar Yadav alias Salman, Ritu Raj (all from Darbhanga), and Tony Kant Bharti (Samastipur) — were caught near Pagda Chowk while preparing for the heist. During the operation, four others — Kamlesh Mahato, Deepak Kumar, Ujjwal Thakur alias Katta, and Rahul Chaudhary alias Baba — managed to escape by firing into the air and fleeing through narrow lanes.
During interrogation, the arrested gang members confessed they had planned to loot a big gold shop near the Dalshinghsarai bridge while police were busy with election duties. They had conducted a detailed recce of the area earlier.
An FIR has been lodged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita-2023 and the Arms Act. Police teams are now tracking the absconding criminals.
Officials involved in the successful operation — including SI Irshad Alam (Station House Officer), ASI Santosh Kumar, ASI Rahul Kashyap, PTC-444 Pranay Kumar Singh, and QRT In-charge Pintoo Singh — will be rewarded for their swift and efficient action.
Police sources confirmed that the bust prevented a major crime from taking place in the run-up to the elections, reinforcing confidence in local law enforcement.
