Trump Offers White House Press Secretary Job to UFC Chief Dana White, Says He Can Bring Fighters as Assistants

Washington: US President Donald Trump has offered Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) CEO Dana White the position of White House Press Secretary, making an unusual choice for one of the administration's most prominent communication roles. Trump also suggested that White could bring several UFC fighters with him as assistants, saying they were needed to defend his administration against what he described as the "Lunatic Left."

Trump announced the offer in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Saturday. He praised White as a fighter and warrior and urged him to accept the position. However, it remains unclear whether White will take up the offer.

Dana White to Meet Trump on Monday

White was in London on Saturday attending a boxing event when journalists asked him about Trump's announcement during a press conference. He said he was travelling to Washington and had a meeting scheduled with the president on Monday.

White did not confirm whether he was interested in becoming the White House spokesperson. He also indicated that he already had several professional responsibilities.

Before responding to reporters, White shared an image of himself standing behind the White House press briefing room podium on Instagram, accompanied by the caption, "On to the next chapter."

A Long-Standing Friendship Between Trump and White

Trump and Dana White have maintained a close relationship for many years. Before entering politics, Trump supported UFC events by allowing the organisation to use his hotels and other properties for competitions at a time when the sport faced criticism over its violent nature.

White subsequently became an outspoken supporter of Trump and delivered a speech in his favour at the Republican National Convention.

Since returning to the White House in January 2025, Trump has appeared at several UFC events alongside White. In June 2026, the president also hosted a major UFC event on the White House South Lawn to mark America's 250th anniversary and his 80th birthday.

Major Changes Inside the Trump Administration

The offer comes at a time of significant political and administrative changes in Washington. Republicans suffered major losses in the November 2026 midterm elections, with Democrats gaining control of both chambers of Congress.

Trump also announced on Friday that Stephen Miller would replace Susie Wiles as White House Chief of Staff. Wiles had been one of the president's closest advisers and was widely regarded as an influential figure within his administration.

Miller, meanwhile, has played a leading role in shaping Trump's strict immigration policies and remains one of his most trusted political allies.

New Press Secretary Left After Just Five Days

Before approaching Dana White, Trump had selected conservative commentator Katie Zacharia for the press secretary position. However, her tenure lasted only five days.

Zacharia, who had frequently appeared on television, reportedly struggled during her first and only press conference at the White House. Her performance attracted attention after she mistakenly referred to her husband as "my president" while answering a question. Questions were also raised about her professional qualifications.

She left the position just five days after taking charge. The post had been vacant following the departure of Karoline Leavitt in August 2026.

A History of Frequent Changes in the Press Secretary's Office

Trump's first presidential term also witnessed several changes in the White House press secretary position.

Sean Spicer was the first press secretary of his initial administration but left after around six months. Sarah Huckabee Sanders succeeded him, followed by Stephanie Grisham, who did not conduct regular press briefings. Grisham resigned following the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol by Trump supporters.

Kayleigh McEnany served as the final press secretary of Trump's first term and later joined Fox News.

The position is now once again at the centre of attention as Trump considers an unconventional candidate from the world of professional fighting.

Whether Dana White accepts the offer will become clearer after his scheduled meeting with the president on Monday.
