Police Officer Injured in Liquor Smuggling Clash in Bagaha, Smuggler Arrested with 10 Liters Country Liquor

A police constable was injured after being attacked by a liquor smuggler in Bagaha, Bihar. The accused, already involved in several cases, was arrested with 10 liters of country liquor.
BAGAHA / DESK:A violent clash broke out between police and a liquor smuggler in the Bagaha region of Bihar, leaving a police constable injured during an enforcement operation against illegal liquor trafficking. The incident occurred near Bagaha railway station under the Patkhauli police station area, where a team of police personnel had gone to intercept suspected liquor smugglers based on intelligence inputs. The operation turned tense when the accused attacked the police team while attempting to escape, leading to chaos in the area.
According to officials, the police had received specific information that a large consignment of country-made liquor was being transported through the Semra–Bagaha main road. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a joint team consisting of SI Shaukat Ali and SI S.K. Manjhi along with Quick Response Team personnel reached the location and began surveillance. The objective was to intercept the suspected smuggler without alerting him, but the situation escalated unexpectedly.
Suspect tried to flee after spotting police
During the operation, officers noticed a man carrying two large bags moving suspiciously near Bagaha railway station. As soon as he spotted the police, he attempted to flee the scene. The police team immediately began chasing him through the crowded area. In an attempt to evade arrest, the suspect ran towards the railway tracks and started throwing stones at the pursuing officers.
Constable injured during physical confrontation
During the chase, Constable Mithilesh Kumar showed courage and managed to catch hold of the suspect. However, the accused launched a violent counterattack, allegedly hitting the constable with stones and even biting him during the struggle. Despite the sudden assault, other police personnel quickly intervened and overpowered the accused, bringing the situation under control. The injured constable sustained wounds during the confrontation and was later taken for medical treatment.
Liquor recovered from bags
After securing the suspect, the police searched his bags and recovered approximately 10 liters of country-made liquor. The seizure confirmed that the individual was actively involved in illegal liquor transportation, violating Bihar’s prohibition laws. The accused and the injured constable were both taken to the Sub-Divisional Hospital in Bagaha, where they received first aid treatment under the supervision of Dr. Abhishek Kumar.
Accused identified as repeat offender
The arrested individual has been identified as Shamim Ahmed, a resident of Narai Pur Sugar Mill area. Police officials confirmed that he has a prior criminal history and has been booked in multiple liquor smuggling cases earlier as well. His repeated involvement in illegal activities has raised concerns about ongoing smuggling networks operating in the region.
Legal action under Excise Act
Following preliminary interrogation, police registered a case against the accused under the Excise Act and sent him to judicial custody. Officials stated that further investigation is underway to trace possible links with larger liquor smuggling networks operating across the border areas.
Police continue crackdown on illegal liquor trade
Authorities have intensified their crackdown on illegal liquor smuggling in the region, especially in sensitive border zones where trafficking activities are often reported. Senior officials have emphasized strict action against repeat offenders and organized networks involved in the illicit liquor trade.
The incident highlights the risks faced by police personnel during routine enforcement operations and underscores the persistent challenge of curbing illegal liquor trafficking despite strict prohibition laws in the state.
